If you are reading this review, you are already drawn, like I was, to the clean and contemporary design of the Deauville range; a design that balances a nod to minimalism with a restrained touch of crisply defined cutting that enhances the ability of light to show off the clarity of this beautiful crystal, and brings a mercurial intensity to its contents. Also, like me, you are probably attempting to make a choice via the website because you are unable to visit the showroom and see these glasses first hand. This was especially the case for me, living as I do on the other side of the planet. The attentive service I received from those managing online sales, the safe arrival my set of glasses plus water jug and ice bucket within a week, and the fact that my enjoyment of drinking from these glasses has been growing steadily over the month I have had them, all combine to make me feel duty bound to offer this review – especially as no one else seems to have done so yet. There is another reason though, and that is to remark on a pleasant and unexpected surprise. This purchase was a partial replacement for a set of rather old crystal tumblers of similar size (purchased second hand some 35 years ago) which though I love, have diminished in number through heavy and varied use. What can I say? Accidents happen. They are more traditional in design but feature similar, if more dense groupings of olive shaped cutting as the Deauville, along with some crisply defined traditional cutting – so you can see why these elements have become attractive to me. I have never seen any glasses quite like them. Anyway, as soon as I took the first drink from my new Deauville tumbler, I realised that its design was more than cosmetic, and that your fingers and thumb naturally find these perfectly positioned oval recesses so that the shape, contouring and smooth finish add a tactile aspect to the experience which is somehow more seductive than from the more crowded design of my older glasses. This, combined with the opulent size and weight of these tumblers make this particular indulgence one of sheer joy. Oh, and the water jug and ice bucket just complete the picture and make the sense of being deeply spoilt complete. Thank you Dartington!

Pictures tell much, but not all of the story. You have to use and hold these to completely enjoy them :) Review by Ross A'hern
