Our visitor centre gives you a unique insight into the world of glass making and Dartington Crystal. Buy Tickets here
We start your tour with a brief history of glass, how it was discovered (by accident), how it has been used through the years and how British glass making began.
Take a look at our Royal Brierley display cabinet, a showcase from past to present of the beautiful hand cut designs that Royal Brierley has to offer. Learn about the two Royal Warrants the brand holds and why the products are used in many of the Royal Households.
Next stop on the tour is our Glass Cone Auditorium. Take a seat and watch a short film explaining the making process for some of our most popular designs. This will give you an insight into some of the techniques and processes you’re likely to see our blowers using later on in the factory tour.
Once the film is over, why not have a look at the UK’s largest crystal Champagne saucer fountain made up of 6 tiers.
All along the back wall is our Dartington Crystal Timeline. As well as product showcases through each decade, you will learn about The Dartington Trust, Frank Thrower and the rest of our Design Team and browse through our product brochures, past and present.
Our Master Engraver Nick Davey is the next stop on your tour. Watch him demonstrate his talent to create unique works of art in glass. If he isn’t at his work bench when you are passing through, don’t worry. There is still a large display of his Gallery Collection pieces on show, along with some bespoke creations we have made over the years.
Take some time now to browse our Visitor Centre shop. Look through all the beautiful products we have on offer and if you haven’t already, enquire about our selection of Get Creative activities. Create a Hand Cast, paint a glass, make your own jewellery or even have a go and blow your own tumbler (additional charges apply and booking recommended).
Once you’ve finished shopping, head down the hallway towards our Factory Tour. Be sure to have a look around as you go, as on display here we have some very special pieces. These include a crystal replica of the FA Challenge Cup trophy, a replica of the vase that was presented to The Queen at 100th RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2013 and a replica of the America’s Cup Trophy.
