From: The Houses of Parliament

Torridge and West Devon MP, Geoffrey Cox enjoyed a tour of Dartington Crystal on Friday last week, before spending time with directors and staff to catch up with the progress of the valued Torrington-based business and tourist attraction.

Geoffrey was given a tour of the visitor centre by Managing Director, Neil Hughes, and was also shown the factory, meeting workers and learning more about the specialist process behind the production of the glass and crystal; as well as the local people who create them. He was then briefed by Managing Director, Neil Hughes, and the management team on the future plans of the company and its intention to remain in Northern Devon.

Geoffrey said: “I was delighted to spend time with Neil and his team, and it was fascinating to see the skills and the craftsmanship involved. The finished products are astonishingly diverse, from some of the most skilfully made and engraved pieces in the world, to personalised gifts and household items.”

“Some of the objects created and engraved on site sell nationwide, and unique pieces have been presented as awards by Her Majesty The Queen. This is the last major crystal and glass makers in the UK, they are important local employers, and it is clear that Dartington Crystal are a manufacturing success story for Torridge of which we can be proud .”
