Stonehenge’s true purpose is shrouded in mystery, but one theory is that it was a giant calendar.
It is believed that the stones and the surrounding 56 Aubrey chalk pit holes make it possible to predict the spring and autumn equinoxes, when the sun shines directly on the equator and the length of day and night is almost equal.
Our Stonehenge Equinox Range of glassware has been produced exclusively for English Heritage by Dartington Crystal in Devon. Each piece has been individually handcrafted and hand-engraved by master craftsmen. The design is taken from an original 18th-century etching depicting the relationship between the holes and and the stones, held at the Wiltshire Museum in Devizes.
